GENDER EQUALITY IN TODAY'S SOCIETY
What is the meaning of gender equality?
Everyone has an equal rights, responsibilities and chances despite having different genders. Gender quality has a great impact on everyone including men, women, children, and the disables. It does not matter at what ages or which background you came from, gender equality will have an effect on your life directly or indirectly.
Till this day, the society is still struggling to create a world where gender equality is a thing. This is due to the fact that many people are still lacking of awareness in the context of why it is necessary to fight for gender equality. The discrimination between genders can be seen in many institution especially in the economy sectors. For example, according to the International Labour Organization, the rate of participation among women in the global labour force is under 47% meanwhile for men, it 72%. This is because of the difficulties among women in grabbing the chances to participate in the working section as the demand are usually high and different depending on the gender.
Women who wish to work struggle more than men to get employment. The Arab States and Northern Africa, where the unemployment rate for women is above 20%, are severely affected by this issue. Men are more likely to work in own-account employment than women do, while women are more likely to assist in households or in the companies of their relatives, despite the fact that both genders are frequently employed in vulnerable occupations. Women around the world have a significantly harder time finding employment than males do. When women do find employment, it is typically in low-paying, risky positions, and there are few signs of improvement in the near term. This is why it is important to fight for gender equality.
Gender inequality also can be seen in the education sector. In Malaysia, the population's literacy rate is 94 percent and the rate among boys is 96.2 percent meanwhile among girls is 93.2 percent. This clearly shows how it is unequal among the genders. The policies and gender roles set by the society affects the opportunities for young women in achieving a better education. The biasness among gender ruin the future of others. Growing up as a women, I truly wish the inequality among gender will no longer exist.
The government needs to see this as a serious issue as it will help us to create a better future and a peaceful environment. Closing the gender gap will not only raise the economy's growth, it will also help the society to produce many talented future leaders among men and women. There should never be a discrimination among gender in any context of social or economy.
